Sailing Juniors: full speed ahead for the next generation on Lake Attersee
For the first time we are bringing young sailors together across club lines — and putting them straight onto demanding keelboats.

The right equipment for the next step
The 2025 season marks a genuine milestone for us: alongside the comeback of our Libera Mr. Cello Due, we launched the Zeit am See Sailing Juniors for the first time. Good youth work rarely fails for lack of motivation — it fails for lack of a boat. That our initiative became reality is down to Stefan Fasch, who provides us with two Trinity 21s.
One of the two lay with us at the UYCAs that season. For crews of four they are ideal: demanding enough, with a complex trim system and a hydraulic canting keel, yet compact enough for a young crew to handle and master the boat on their own responsibility.
Not a taster course, but real responsibility
Aboard are mixed under-18 crews from two clubs — the Union-Yacht-Club Attersee (UYCAs) and the Segelclub Attersee (SCATT). The teams are led by Amelie and Emanuel Gruber, who, as skippers, run the crew and handle the organisation.
The decisive difference from an ordinary course: the young sailors are on the helm themselves and make the tactical calls, while experienced mentors from our team sit aboard in support, giving feedback and confidence.

After the first sessions on the water it gets serious quickly: the Attersee Grand Prix and the Long Distance Challenge put two classics on the schedule right away — two races we have been sailing ourselves for years.
“It shows how youth development can work with quality, enjoyment and a sense of togetherness,” says Tobias Böckl. That was exactly the aim — and the first summer showed that it holds up across club lines.
